What I wrote long ago!
Camp fire. Everybody was gathering, holding hands and making a big round. She looked around, searching for a face.
There he was, laughing and chatting with his friends. Suddenly, he discovered that strange and gentle look. She shyly turned around, pretending she was looking for someone else. This was not the first time in the evening that she had been “caught in the act”.
…
- (Buzz)
- Yeah, what’s up?
- Ya accept my gift yet?
- What gift?
- Hmm, an alarm clock. Sent ya yesterday.
- Oh, funny. I need one to wake me up in the morning. Always late recently.
- Really? Well, I still keep that I bought ya three months ago. The thing that ya had crucially refused.
- Oh, sorry (smile). I thought you were just kiddin’. You know, I’m not a kid anymore. My bad. Even?
- If ya change your mind, I still can give it to ya.
- The only way for me to make up my fault? Then, my pleasure.
- When can ya meet me?
- Your choice.
- There’s no chance I came to your room and become a joke to everybody.
- I’ve never thought about that.
- Okie. Later. Gotta think about it.
…
- When is your next road show?
- You still don’t know it? I’ll join the camp. Last minute change.
- Ya, great news. Then I will “hand over” the clock that day, ok?
- Yeap.
…
She smiled to herself. It seems to be a good sign. He used to change the topic right before she said anything “sensitive”. But now he almost agreed to meet her in person. A chance that she had been waiting for a several months. She decided that she couldn’t blow it away. It might be the only chance she ever had.
….
“Hey, can I see ya after the camp fire?” – Just a short sms, but she had opened and closed her mobile for at least ten times. Finally, she closed her eyes, took a really deep breath, told herself: “Common, just press the button”. Her finger touched the Send button and pushed. Message delivered. She glanced at him, looking for the moment he read it, and hoped he would smile to her as an acceptance. But he didn’t even open his mobile. She worried. Something’s wrong?
…
Her bus was moving. She absentminded looked out the window. He was on another one. She saw it leaving the bus stop but didn’t intend to search for him. Suddenly she saw him at the end, also looking out the window. His eyes met hers. She kept looking for three more seconds then turned away. “He knew”.
…
“That’s weird. Normally, he only glanced at me as a stranger. But now I saw him looking at me when I combed my hair. He didn’t mind return my look. Something changed his mind recently?”
…
She was walking along the beach alone. The sound of laughter is smaller. Choosing a dry place, she sat down. Sighed. There was no chance at all. He was still with his friends. She felt desperate. “Is it our destinies have been entwined, but never joined?”
She opened her mobile. “Isn’t it your wish to listen to some music at the beach? Go on, do it”. But on that night, even “I have a dream” or “Nocturne” cannot raise her mood up. She felt worse. “Better go home now”.
…
Everybody started holding hands to play a new game. She regretted. Why didn’t she stand by him, so that now she could hold his hand without creating any suspiciousness. “Hmm, but maybe this was better. I always do stupid things when he is around. If he touches me, I may become a big joke here”.
…
She sat alone at the fountain, still listening to some music. Tried to find some “positive” songs that couldn’t make her mood worse. Still hoping. “Maybe he will read my sms”.
…
- Hey, don’t go home. Everybody is going to the beach. Wanna join?
She smiled and nodded.
…
- Oh, you sms me? I left my cell in my room.
He didn’t talk to her, but she heard it all. “That’s why”.
…
- Ooppps. Sorry, I’ve just read your message. Wait for a few minutes. See you at the stage, ok?
- It’s all right. I’m at the fountain. Still not get back to my room yet.
….
They talked a lot. Sometimes, the conversation was paused by the silence. She twisted her hands. Every time she tended to ask him that question, he began a new conversation. They stayed there for an hour.
It started raining. Two of them run slowly to the bungalows. Just a cloudburst. They walked again. She fell behind, twisting her hem. He still talked. They were close to their rooms. “It’s now or never” – she thought.
…
- Sorry, sorry. Have to take a bath. I’m all wet.
- No problem. Here it is.
- Wow. Cute. Does it have the alarm?
- Seems that yes.
- Ah here. I’ll try.
- …
- Do ya want to go to the beach?
- Now? Again? Ok.
…
- Hey, can I ask ya one thing? – She tapped his shoulder.
- Of course.
His eyes looked at her gently (she thought so). Her cheeks blushed. She turned around, keep twisting her hem. He giggled. That sounds only made her heart beat more quickly.
A little silence.
- Actually… I like ya a lot… I don’t know what d’ya think about me… – Her face turned red. Luckily, the darkness helped her hide it.
He chuckled again.
She felt relieved. “I did it”.
- Why d’ya smile? I meant it. If you do not like me, just say No. It’s fine.
- Well. I think with this stuff, I should be honest from the beginning, to avoid misunderstanding and wait… (“D’ya mean meaningless waiting?” – She thought)
Well, right now, I just think about you as a friend.
- I know you will say that – She smiled.
- … Well, I don’t mean anything bad, it’s just that…
- I know. I even prepared for this. I just want to say it out.
He smiled again.
…
The sun was shining brightly. She was at the beach with her friends. He was there too. They were taking photo. She saw his gently eyes again.
…
- Here’s my room.
- Then, good nite.
- Yeah, you too.
She walked on the stairs.
- Thank you for the gift.
She turned around, smiled.
- You’re welcome.
…
- How thing’s going?
- Well, it’s like that.
- Any new move?
- Not yet (She sighed)
- Try to ask him out?
- How?
- A movie, for example. The Proposal is great.
- A love movie. You think it’s safe?
- Yeah, why not?
…
- Denied.
- Well, then the time’s not right yet.
- The reason: “My ex-girlfriend came back. I’m gonna busy for the next whole week. Only have tomorrow to meet her”.
- There’s still hope.
- Thanks
…
- How are you doing?
- In the end.
- Really?
- (Silent)
…
He kept ignoring her again. Just like the vacation is a fantasy. “Maybe he needs time. Maybe he wants to make the first move, not me”.
…
She “saw” him flirting with another girl. One, two, then three days, he still kept that way of talking to that one. She felt surprised that she didn’t as shocked as she expected.
…
“If he likes that type of girl, then maybe he and I aren’t meant to be. If he doesn’t have his eyes on me, it is his pity. Not mine anymore”.
…
Anyway, after the rain, there isn’t a rainbow, but there is still sunshine.

When?
You can guess it.
